ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਲੈਂਗੂਏਜ ਐਜੂਕੇਸ਼ਨ ਐਸੋਸੀਏਸ਼ਨ (ਪਲੀ) ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਜਾਣ ਕੇ ਖੁਸ਼ੀ ਹੋਈ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਸਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ ਜ਼ਿਲਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਐਲਿਮੈਂਟਰੀ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਦੇ ਗਰੇਡ 2, 3 ਅਤੇ 4 ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆਰਥੀਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਦੋ ਅਕਤੂਬਰ ਵਾਲੇ ਦਿਨ ਇਕ ਸਰਵੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਘਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜੇਗਾ। ਇਸ ਸਰਵੇ ਦਾ ਮਕਸਦ ਸਰੀ ਦੇ ਪਬਲਿਕ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਜਾਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਦੂਜੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਦਿਲਚਸਪੀ ਜਾਨਣਾ ਹੈ।
ਜਿਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਈ ਬੋਲੀਆਂ ਵਿਚੋਂ ਇਕ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਬੀ ਸੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ ਦੇ ਵਿਦਿਆ ਮਹਿਕਮੇ ਵਲੋਂ ਦੂਜੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈਆਂ ਜਾਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ। ਬੀ ਸੀ ਦੇ ਸਕੂਲਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਰੇਡ 5 ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਗਰੇਡ 8 ਤੱਕ ਦੂਜੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਪੜ੍ਹਨੀ ਲਾਜ਼ਮੀ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਗਰੇਡ 9 ਤੋਂ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਗਰੇਡ 12 ਤੱਕ ਆਪਸ਼ਨਲ ਹੈ। ਇਹ ਸਰਵੇ ਫਾਰਮ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਆਉਣਗੇ ਤੇ ਇਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਭਰ ਕੇ ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 13 ਤੱਕ ਵਾਪਸ ਭੇਜਣਾ ਜ਼ਰੂਰੀ ਹੈ।
ਪਲੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ/ਗਾਰਡੀਅਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਇਹ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਫਾਰਮ ਉੱਪਰ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਨੂੰ ਦੂਜੀ ਭਾਸ਼ਾ ਵਜੋਂ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਏ ਜਾਣ ਬਾਰੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਚੋਣ ਲਿਖਣ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਨੀ ਛੇਤੀ ਹੋ ਸਕੇ, ਸ਼ੁਕਰਵਾਰ ਅਕਤੂਬਰ 13 ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਇਹ ਫਾਰਮ ਮੁੜ ਕੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚੇ ਹੱਥ ਸਕੂਲ ਨੂੰ ਭੇਜ ਦੇਣ।
ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਹੁਣ ਸਾਡੇ ਨੋਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਪ੍ਰੌਫੈਸ਼ਨਲ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਲਈ ਨੌਕਰੀਆਂ ਮਿਲਣ ਦਾ ਸਾਧਨ ਬਣ ਗਈ ਹੈ। ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਇਹ ਸਾਡੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਿਛੋਕੜ ਅਤੇ ਜੜ੍ਹਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਜੋੜਦੀ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਵੀ ਅੱਗੇ, ਇਕ ਹੋਰ ਜ਼ਬਾਨ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਨਾਲ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਲਈ ਅਨੇਕਾਂ ਨਵੀਆਂ ਦਿਸ਼ਾਵਾਂ ਖੁਲਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਦੀ ਸਿੱਖਣ, ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਯੋਗਤਾ ਵਿਚ ਵਾਧਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ। ਅਸੀਂ ਹੁਣ ਇਕ ਗਲੋਬਲ ਪਿੰਡ ਦੇ ਵਾਸੀ ਹਾਂ। ਇਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਸਾਡੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਲਈ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਸਿੱਖਣਾ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਭਵਿੱਖ ਵਿਚ ਕੰਮਾਂ ਕਾਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਬਹੁਤ ਸਹਾਈ ਹੋ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ। ਹੁਣ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਬੱਚਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਨੌਜਵਾਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਾਂ-ਬੋਲੀ ਪੰਜਾਬੀ ਦੀ ਮਹੱਤਤਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸੀਏ ਅਤੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਅੰਦਰ ਮਾਂ-ਬੋਲੀ ਲਈ ਮਾਣ ਸਤਿਕਾਰ ਪੈਦਾ ਕਰੀਏ। ਇਸ ਖੇਤਰ ਵਿਚ ਮਹੱਤਵਪੂਰਨ ਯੋਗਦਾਨ ਪਾਉਣ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਹੈ। ਇਸ ਕਰਕੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਪਲੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਸਾਰੇ ਮਾਪਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਪੁਰਜ਼ੋਰ ਅਪੀਲ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਸਰਗਰਮੀ ਨਾਲ ਇਸ ਅਮਲ ਵਿਚ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਪਾਉਣ।

Punjabi Language Education Association (PLEA) is pleased to learn that Surrey School District will be sending a survey form home with grades 2, 3 and 4 students in each of its elementary schools starting Monday, October 2. This survey is designed to determine interest in second languages in Surrey’s public schools. As you are aware, Punjabi is one of several languages approved by the BC Ministry of Education. Learning a second language from grades 5 through 8 is compulsory and optional from 9 to 12. The survey forms will be arriving home with children soon. The completed survey form must be returned to the child’s school by Friday, October 13. On behalf of PLEA, I would like to urge the parents/guardians to mark Punjabi as the second language of their choice and return the completed form to their child’s school as soon as possible, but no later than Friday, October 13.
Punjabi has now become the language of employment for our youth and professionals. Furthermore, it connects our children and youth with their heritage/roots. Moreover, learning another language broadens a person’s horizons and enhances their cognitive ability. We live in a global village. As such, learning Punjabi can be a great asset for our children/youth in their future endeavours such as trade and tourism etc. Now is the time to emphasize the importance of our mother tongue Punjabi and create pride for it amongst our children and youth. Now is the time to make a significant contribution in this area. As such, PLEA asks the parents to get actively involved in this process.
