Punjabi Performing Arts
The Punjabi Performing Arts Certificate Programs in Music and Dance provides in-depth study of the Punjabi Performing Arts. The program offers training by master teachers in the traditional forms of Punjabi music and Punjabi folk dance. The certificates are approved by the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association and offered through the Royal Academy of Bhangra, in Surrey British Columbia, and in partnership the Punjabi University, Patiala, India. Both certificates (Dance and Music) offer in depth understanding and connection with the underlying histories, themes and technical aspects of the dance movements, and the specifics of Punjabi folk music composition and instrumentation allowing a full expression of Punjabi folk arts that will allow a greater level of interpretation and a deeper literacy that any performer must master in order to advance their own practice and be relevant in a contemporary market. Both certificates will be taught concurrently - music of the dances and dancers for the music.

Diploma in Punjabi Folk Music and Folk Dances
Royal Academy of Bhangra is a pioneer Academy in Canada working constantly toward the Academics of Punjabi Folk Music and Punjabi Folk Dance we are starting the Diploma program in Punjabi Folk Music and Folk Dances of Punjab region with the partnership of Punjabi University Patiala (India) this Summer. The curriculum and educational material will be provided by The University of Patiala for 2 full-time semesters.
Punjabi Folk Music
Basic Introduction about Indian music-concept, different forms and basic elements focusing mainly on raga and tala. Main characteristics of the music of Punjab. Introduction to Folk lore, Folk art and Folk music in particular context of Punjab Various forms of Punjabi folk music such as- Maahia, Dhola, Tappe, Jindua, Jugni, Chhalla, Jhumar, Bolian, Kavishri, Vaar-gayan, Kissa-gayan, Dhadi-gayan, songs related to social ceremonies and the songs to be sung along with the various folk dances of Punjab. Brief life sketches of the prominent folk musicians of Punjab. Singing various forms of Punjabi folk songs along with playing folk instruments. Practical knowledge of some talas (rhythmic cycles) and basic ragas (melodic modes).
The focus is on the authentic and practical knowledge of Punjabi folk music and ability to sing a Punjabi Folk Music forms.
Punjabi Folk Dances
Basic Introduction about Indian music-concept, different forms and basic elements focusing mainly on raga and tala. Main characteristics of the music of Punjab. Introduction to Punjabi Folk dances Bhangra, Giddha, Jhumar, Sammi, Luddi, Malwai Giddha, Kikli and Gatka. Brief life sketches of the prominent folk Dances of Punjab.
The focus is on the authentic and practical knowledge of Punjabi folk Dances and ability to perform Punjabi Folk Dances & knowledge of Academics.
